Awhina Day Nursery and Kindergarten is an independent Waldorf / Steiner Centre for Child Care in Havelock North, New Zealand.
Awhina offers a nurturing care environment for children from 6 months in a home like setting based on Rudolf Steiner pedagogical principles (anthroposophical day nursery).
The directors Gerrit and Bernadette Raichle also offer international training and consulting services based on their work at Awhina.
Their work has taken them to Australia, USA, Canada, Europe and Japan. Bernadette is the author of Creating a Home for Body, Soul and Spirit and this centre, Awhina, has also created a DVD entitled “Out Comes the Sun”. Little Lions uses these are resources for work with our own staff.
Little Lions has benefited annually from training provided by Bernadette and Gerrit Raichle for the past 5 years. Little Lions staff typically have 4 days of training in July.
